My friend told me her daughter was going to be a police officer for Halloween and later that day I saw these police hats at Target:

High School Musical is on my mind because my daughter just finished playing the role of “Taylor” in High School Musical Jr. Gabriella wears a cute red dress at the end of High School Musical when they sing, “We’re All in This Together.” This sparkling red dress from Justice works great for a brunette who wants to be Gabriella and is perfect for the holidays and Valentine’s Day. Though it doesn’t have the spaghetti straps like retail costume does, I prefer this version because it’s a little more modest on young girls. And my philosophy is that you generally want to avoid the “costume in a bag” (meaning the costume that every store is selling for your character)–you want something similar, but unique. Add loose waves in the hair, strappy gold or brown sandals, and gold bangles for the finishing touch.
I love this upbeat, positive, happy song!
I recently wrote 3 different posts using a faux fur vest as a starting point for Halloween costume ideas. I was out shopping today and it’s not just available at JC Penney. Apparently this faux fur vest look is hot this year because I saw similar vests at H & M and Target . H & M even has a version in their adult sizes. Justice has a version you can purchase online here. So not only do you or your kids get something cozy and warm to wear as part of a Halloween costume, but you get something trendy for fall and winter! Who doesn’t love that?
JC Penney has this cool faux-fur vest for that can be incorporated into lots of animal Halloween costume ideas: I can’t tell from the pic, but I am assuming the belt is removable if desired. They are not usually secured.
For an EAGLE: Layer this vest on top of a long brown dress from the thrift store, cut it into a high-low hem and trim the hem in a white/black feather boa. For a boy, dye a white long john set brown, and layer the vest over the top. Add brown boots and make or purchase a felt or feathered eagle mask along with eagle wings on Amazon.

PAPA BEAR, MAMA BEAR, BABY BEAR: This would be a fun group costume for triplets or siblings.
For PAPA BEAR: Wear this vest over a tan or brown t-shirt, turtleneck, or long john top. For the bottom, use brown or black sweatpants, dress pants, or long johns (dye a white long john set if needed for the right color). For variation, pair a long sleeved dress shirt under the fur vest with a tie or bow tie and khaki school uniform pants on the bottom. Top it off with this bear hat from Amazon:

For a TRADITIONAL GIRL OWL: Wear a brown/black/cream/white long sleeve shirt (your choice) underneath the vest and add a brown skirt, tights, and leg warmers. You could use a khaki school uniform jumper or a brown skirt with a print on it works really well.

This tutorial shows the simple process of changing leggings into bandage leggings which are all the rage. Bandage leggings are a fantastic detail which can be incorporated into many types of costumes. These are simple descriptions for Cleo De Nile, a witch, and a mummy are just a few to get you started thinking:
My daughter wants to be a minion for Halloween after watching this helpful tutorial. Some of the costume websites are sold out of the minion costume, so it looks like it will be a popular one this year!
This tutorial shows how to put together the minion costume out of a white long sleeve t-shirt, a beanie cap, and tights which are easily found at a discount store, then dyed in yellow Rit dye to match each other. Next you refashion a denim jumper you purchased at the thrift store. Remember when these were all the rage in the late 80’s/early 90’s?
