Faux Fur Vest= Kids Owl Halloween Costume

JC Penney has this cool faux-fur vest for that can be incorporated into many kids Halloween costume ideas. I can’t tell from the pic, but I am assuming the belt is removable if desired.  They are not usually secured.

For a TRADITIONAL GIRL OWL:  Wear a brown/black/cream/white long sleeve shirt (your choice) underneath the vest and add a brown skirt, tights, and leg warmers. You could use a khaki school uniform jumper or a brown skirt with a print on it works really well.

Even cuter for girls would be to make a simple no-sew tutu of brown and orange tulle as inspired by the pic below and wear it with orange striped tights as shown, or white tights with brown leg warmers made from long sleeves that are chopped off of a sweater. You can add a brown, cream, or black feather boa around the vest arm holes, trimming to the length as needed for extra detail. Make an owl mask of felt or purchase the mask featured below.  Order the owl wings shown below from Amazon or make a suede or microfiber cape in a different tone of brown that is at least fingertip length and has some fullness. Attach a narrow width elastic loop to each lower corner of the cape to wear around the wrists to create a winged look.   Wear black shoes, boots, Converse All-Starts, or glitter flats.

If you want a more WHIMSICAL OWL: Add a few colors to complement the brown tones such as purple & pale pink, hot pink & aqua, yellow & orange, or lime green & turquoise. Really anything goes with brown!  Incorporate the fun colors into the tulle in the tutu, solid color or striped tights, a pattern in the skirt, colored glitter flats, colored sequin trim glued around the wings,  or add colored feathers to the mask.  If nothing else, throw a colored feather boa around the neck! As long as you have the fur/feathered element and some type of intentional owl eyes and beak, you can do a lot with color in an owl costume and still look like an owl.
